Soaring Back into Community!

We’ve had a wonderful start to the 2021-2022 school year! This year our school theme is, “Hope in the Lord…Renew…Soar like Eagles.” The theme is based on Isaiah 40:31. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” This passage in Isaiah helps us understand that God wants us to rely on Him, have hope in the future, and flourish together in community.

This year is a very special year because we are celebrating our 60th year! God is faithful and He has walked us through the past 59 years and will continue to lead us into this 60th year and beyond. He has called us to soar together, and we are striving to do that by rebuilding community in this 60th year after facing the challenges over the past year and a half due to the pandemic. There is a renewed sense of community happening both in our school building and our broader community! God created us to be relational beings. He designed us for communion and doing life together. Romans 12: 4-5 says, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” God wants us to be in community! He wants us to flourish together, united in our love for Him, each other, and our students.

We have been intentionally rebuilding community this year. We started our journey of the 2021-2022 school year with a community-focused work party at the school in August. We had a great turnout of new families and existing families. We enjoyed getting the school grounds ready, but we also loved laughing and building relationships together! Next, we enjoyed our back-to-school Open House. Students, staff, and parents alike enjoyed seeing each other in person and being in the school building. During the school year so far, we have been rebuilding community as GCCS families through outdoor chapels, parent socials, outdoor Meet the Teacher night, and school sports. We also have parents participating in volunteering opportunities such as our reading program, coaching, and attending class trips. Our students are enjoying sports teams, reading buddies with other classes, recess time when they can interact with students that are not in their class, and participating in class trips and service projects. They have also had the blessing as an entire school body to take part in events such as Digital Citizenship Day, Terry Fox Walk, and National Truth and Reconciliation Day. In the coming weeks we will participate in Student Council events with our School Families made up of students from various grades. Nurturing community, building relationships, and supporting students’ social-emotional needs are important to our GCCS staff. God is at work in many ways here at GCCS! We look forward to growing in our relationships and renewing community further throughout the year. Please continue to pray for our students and staff. May we find hope, feel renewed, and soar together while rooted in God’s word and love for us. We look forward to partnering with each of you as we continue to fill our GCCS community with grace, love for one another, and joy!
