God’s Gift of Music at Guelph Community Christian School

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”

Psalm 150:6

Music is a wonderful gift from God that we can use to praise Him, bless others and creatively express ourselves.  We lift our voices and instruments in praise to God and to bless others in our classrooms, chapels, concerts and community.

At GCCS, students are immersed in God’s wonderful gift of music from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.  In the primary grades, students are given the opportunity to sing and play rhythm instruments.  In Grades 3 to 6, students develop their singing voices further and study the recorder and tone-chimes.  In Grades 7 and 8, students learn to play a musical instrument within a band setting.  Throughout their time at GCCS, music helps students learn to work in community to produce something beautiful.  Just like the body of Christ, they learn that each voice, instrument and person is integral to the making of beautiful sound.

From Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, GCCS students learn to sing, read music, compose, and to perform various pieces for concerts, school functions and community events.  Music theory, history and various cultural styles are also taught as part of the music program.  Extra-curricular musical groups at GCCS include Junior and Senior Choir, Concert Band and Jazz Band.  Woven through all these beautiful musical opportunities is the knowledge that God is a great God who created music so that we can use it to praise Him, to bring joy to others and to express ourselves individually and as a community.
