CBC Music, in association with MusiCounts, has challenged music classes across Canada to learn a great Canadian song. From elementary to high school, this year’s entries include everything from jazz bands, kazoo classes, guitar clubs, symphonies, choirs and so much more.

Congratulation to our Grade 8 Band Class!

This morning they were short-listed in Category 3: Junior High School Instrumental. http://www.cbcmusic.ca/posts/17718/canadian-music-class-challenge-shortlist-2016

The winning school from each category will be rewarded with a high-tech classroom recording kit, as well as a commemorative plaque. Winners will be announced online at cbcmusic.ca/musicclass as well as on CBC Radio 2 Morning, and q with Tom Power on December 16.

It is exciting to participate in a national event where we can shine and celebrate music with other Canadians. Music is an interactive part of our culture. It has a special way of giving our life rhythm and emotion. At times music is personal, such as an encounter with music in worship to God. At other times, it can be unifying and bring about feelings of familiarity. This particular event does just that. I’m grateful for the work and skill of our grade 8 band as they contributed to building unity in our country.
