A Note from Our Board Chair

In November of 2014 my family and I took a bit of a leap.  We moved from the community I grew up in, a small-town farming community we were comfortable in, to Guelph.  We didn’t move to an area where we were completely alone.  My wife (Arlene) went to high school at Woodland and her grandmother lives here in town, but it still felt like we were stepping out of our comfort zone.

Through the GCCS community, we felt at home right away.  The staff showed excitement at the opportunity to work with our kids, and a genuine interest in their educational, personal and spiritual well-being.  The parents and society members were friendly, accepting and easy to talk to.

Once we got settled in and found our place in the GCCS volunteer spectrum, our belief that this community was our home was solidified.  Meetings all start and end with a prayer.  The monthly chapels that get the kids involved in the telling of the Christ story are inspiring.  I have always felt cared for in this community.  As Board Chair, I pray that all families involved in this school community can feel as blessed by it as we do.

Our school theme this year is, “Who does God say I am? I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” It comes from Psalm 139:14.   It connects to our Student Growth Profile: “KNOW that they are a loved child of Christ who is fearfully and wonderfully made”.   I look forward to seeing the unique ways the staff and students display this theme over the coming year.
