About GCCS

Guelph Community Christian School offers a program from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 graduation. GCCS is committed to providing educational quality that exceeds public school standards while integrating our Christian beliefs and values into the educational process.

At GCCS, the Christian component is part of every subject. The Bible is a guide for all of our programs as we seek to understand God's sovereignty over all human endeavours, and to respond in humility and service.  We challenge our students to be changed by the Spirit of God from the inside out, and then to change the world around them.

Our mission is "to nurture, educate and inspire students in Christ-centred learning and serving".

We are continually seeking ways of putting our mission into practice by using it as a touchstone for reviewing current policies and practices, and for guiding us when making decisions.  We make learning real through the use of Project-Based Learning.  We teach peace-making through the Restorative Practices model for school relationships. We also put our mission into practice through community service projects like collecting toys for the Salvation Army Toy Drive, collecting food for the Hope House Food Drive, raising funds for the Bracelet of Hope, cleaning neighbourhood parks, planting trees in neighbourhood settings, etc.

GCCS is a member of the Edvance Christian Schools Association, an organization that began in 1952 and provides an umbrella of support for over 70 Christian schools and 11,000 students in Ontario. It supports schools with curriculum development and educational, legal, and organizational advice. It also conducts reviews of member schools every six years, the latest for GCCS happening in 2012.

GCCS teachers are members of Vocate, the Ontario College of Teachers and the Ontario Christian School Teachers Association (formerly called OCSTA). This is a community of professional Christian school educators working to equip and enable its member to provide Christ-centred education.

Parent-Directed, Christ-Centred

GCCS has a governance model that ensures parent priorities are school priorities. As a Christian school, our core purpose remains as it always has been: to work with families to ensure their children receive a high quality education that builds up and integrates Christian faith into all aspects of life.

Our educational goals go beyond academics to encompass the whole person: mind, heart, spirit and strength. In pursuing this goal we have developed an exellent working relationship with many local churches and Christian organizations, but we remain an independent school. GCCS is governed by the John Calvin Christian School Society, which consists of parents, grandparents,  alumni and other interested community members, all of whom share our vision of Christian education.

New families who agree with the core values and vision of the Society are encouraged to join and take part in the governance and management of the school.
